I've always wanted to adopt.

In fact, when I was a child, I had dreams of opening an orphanage.
Now that I have six children, that dream has diminished.
It's expensive to raise children. We're in the- two in college/one is going on a mission/one in diapers/a couple in between/some need thousands poured into their mouth/all need clothes and food/blah blah blah - phase. Money is scarce 'round these parts.

Yesterday, I was driving with my son.
All of the sudden, he reads a sign.

I took it as a sign from above.
I will adopt a highway, instead of more children.
That's free, right?
I don't have to put it through school, put braces on it, clothe it, raise it, feed it, or send it to college.
It can have my name, and I will clean up after it.
The best thing of all?
It will never move out of state.
I can visit it whenever I want to.
I just have to bring a trash bag.

That is a great idea. I've heard though that it can be hard when people are mean to your adopted family member...throwing pop cans out their windows, cigarette butts, etc. Are you ready to deal with all that?

I'll have to steel myself. Maybe put up guardrails or something.

For some reason this post makes me want to sing Gordon Lightfoot but change the words to "Carrot Highway....nice to see you my old friend...."

I would only want to adopt the Highway To Hell or maybe the Road Paved With Good Intentions.
