What goes up, must come down.

After the cave, Annie and Carrie took us on the "Canyon Flyer"

"Hop on the Canyon Flyer - the first alpine coaster in the United States! - with individual cars on tracks that race 3,400 feet through the trees and down the mountainside. Ride alone or with a friend. You control your speed, which gives you a unique hands-on experience. Your ride is exciting and varied, with jumps and waves built into the track to add to the thrill. Unlike an alpine slide, the Canyon Flyer makes hairpin turns and can operate year-round due to its track system. At the end of the ride, you're pulled 1,000 feet up the track, through a forest dotted with wild flowers, to return to where your ride began."

I chose to go last, I wanted to see if anyone would fall off the track. I'm concerned like that. The guy kept assuring me that no one has ever fallen off, or de-railed. So I decided that I would go full blast- no brakes. This is what it was like...
(Let it load all the way, then watch it. Otherwise it's halting, and not as fun. Pretend this is me, and add more screaming)

Then in the middle, pretend I see Carrie and scream, "GO FASTER!! SPEED UP!!" and she yells back to me, "I CAN'T! ELASTIC WON'T GO ANY FASTER!" Darn it all. Anyhoo, it was surprisingly lots of fun. Makes you want to take your family there, doesn't it?
We missed the tram for the ride down, and ended up taking a bus. Switchbacking down the mountain on a bus. THAT was fun. Angel showed me all the cute pictures of her kids on the way down, so it made it go faster.
That was the end of Glenwood Caverns.
We hit the road again, off to a different hotel, and our final night. :(

OK the best part of watching that Alpine coaster of death video was Aretha Franklin singing along "I say a little prayer for you..."

Which is really something.

Because I wasn't.

That is my kind of ride. I am pretty sure though, that if I got thrown off, that little chicken wire might not contain me. Yikes!

Surprising to hear that Elastic is not the thrill-seeker I thought she was. Hmmmm.

Great job giving us the scoop on the cool adventure in CO. I love the coaster and laughed when I saw the wire around the sides--yeah, is that to keep people in or out?? Looks like a blast!

What a great roller coaster ride!! It has been so long since I've been on a ride like that... we'll have to see what we can do about that. :)

I can't believe you found a video of the coaster on Youtube. But then again I don't know why I am surprised, you can find anything on Youtube.

Watching the video made me a little queazy. I don't think I am meant to keep my lunch down today. Did you read what my sister said about "hot dogs"? Blech.

so i wasn't paying attention to the youtube icon in the bottom of the screen and thought it was actually YOU filming your ride down the hill. and i kept looking at the toes and saying, "i thought carrots toes were painted all pretty-like." and then i got really disturbed because the lady sounds like she's in childbirth with all of her panting and breathing. but regardless of all that. (i did figure out that it wasn't you) i would LOVE a ride like that and would probably do it over and over and over again. cuz i'm crazy like that.

I watched the clip on youtube.....and screamed all over again.

Thanks for outing me as Elastic Chicken. Maybe I could be Millie Chickens sister, for reals!

I'd have to give that ride a big "no thanks."

And I agree with Aubrey re: the sidebar dancers. Except I occasionally DO join in.
