The following post must be read/played in order.
DO NOT jump ahead,
I repeat...
DO NOT jump ahead, or it will not turn out as I have it planned in my mind.
This would not only ruin it for me,
but for you as well.
You want to be happy, no?
You want a nice Christmas, right?
I want a nice Christmas.
This would make me happy.
You want me to be happy, no?
You want me to have a nice Christmas, right?
Read the lyrics, play the video, then go on.
Please.
I beg of you.
It'll be like a Christmas present for me.
You want to give me a present, right?
I want you to give me a present.
Just do as I ask, and everything will be fine.
Alright, go on...
*Cue the Christmas Music*
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
With the kids jingle belling,
and everyone telling you,
"Be of good cheer,"
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
There'll be parties for hosting,
marshmallows for toasting and
caroling out in the snow.
there'll be scary ghost stories and
tales of the glories of Christmases
long, long ago.
(he he - perfect!)
Wait- what?
"there'll be scary ghost stories..."
Er...there will be?
Scary ghost stories??
Scary ghost stories after we go caroling?
Why did I never pick up on this tradition?
You know what?
I'm glad my family never picked up this activity!
Yes I am!
I was freaked out enough at Halloween.
I can't even tell you how traumatized I'd be if we had to do it 2 months later while opening packages.
((shudder))
How many times have I listened to this song,
getting all excited for Christmas parties and hot chocolate,
and didn't even hear the "scary ghost stories" part?
About a zillion.
It never clicked until last week.
Who does this at Christmas?
Who?
Come on! Tell me!
Fess up!
Who's trying to freak people out at Christmas??
Can't we just leave the ghost stories at Halloween,
and exchange cookie recipes at Christmas?
The poor children!
The poor, poor children!
Hiding under blankets after they've been told scary ghost stories.
Shame! Shame on you!
Stop it I say!
STOP!
Er...I mean...I don't want to boss you or anything, but I'm just saying you might want to stop this a.s.a.p.
Otherwise you might not get as many gifts as you'd like.
And your kids might put you in a Nursing Home straight away when the time comes, instead of mulling it over a while.
"Oh she was a witch! Just tie her up and drive her over!"
You know me,
I'm just looking out for you.
It's my job.
I applied for it and everything.
Hmmm...maybe I better go finish "Codependent No More".

What in the Crap!! You are right....It really says that!!
That is my new favorite Christmas carol (along with "Something's stuck up in the chimney")
I noticed that years ago. I always thought it was referring to Scrooge and the four ghosts in that story! (Jacob Marley included). What is the Christmas song "Something's stuck up in the chimney?" Is it just me or does that sound a little inappropriate?
I've sung that song many a time and never thought anything about that lyric! Weird.
Merry Christmas!
That is funny! I mean scary! I don't think it clicked with me, either! No ghosties here at Christmas!
Merry Christmas! :)
I knew it and thought it was strange, but thought too it must have to do with ghost in the closets, coming clean and having the most wonderful time of the year! :) lol Who knows?
You're not going to believe me when I say this, but I JUST heard this song at Kroger's last week on K-Roger Radio and my ears picked up on the scary ghost story thingie too.
I'd never noticed it before last week.
If you think about it though, A Christmas Carol is about the scariest ghost story of all time. WHo do those flippin spirits think they are making you face your miserable past, present, and future all in one night? That's just mean. If I was Scrooge I'd file a lawsuit and bankrupt their Local Spooky Union.
I blocked those lyrics out due to them being so traumatizing ;)
Merry Christmas to you and your kiddos.
OMGosh!!!!!
What the hey?
We have been living a lie!
I always thought the Scary Ghost stories were the many incarnations of A Christmas Carol.
If you read the book, the ghosts are quite scary...and even in the Muppet Christmas Carol that third ghost is pretty freaky!
I had never even noticed!
But at least Grandma didn't get run over by a reindeer!
I TOTALLY am with you there . . . seriously . . . since WHEN do "scary ghost stories" go with CHRISTMAS!!!! Sheesh . . . someone needs to call the Christmas Song Patrol and report a huge case of anti-Christmassy sentiment in that song!
Merry Christmas! :)
LOL! That is all.
You know, I had noticed this line before and wondered about it.
The only thing I can think of is that Santa was originally scary. Man in red who comes into your house at night? Oooo...freaky.
There's another line somewhere in another song...have no idea which one...that mentions "presents ON the tree." Yes, ON the tree. I don't know about you, but my tree is only about 15 inches tall, and most presents are bigger than it is.
I love Carrot
I knew it said that, but it never really clicked in my small brain! CRAZY!
